Change is all around us in the business world. Sometimes it is in incremental stages, and at other times it is necessary for a large change to the way your organisation operates. It is essential that business leaders are prepared with the knowledge and skills to lead their teams through change.

- Recognise and acknowledge people’s individual reactions to change; and to understand where their concerns

- Understand the need to build and develop trust and emotional awareness in teams who are undergoing change – especially when leading the change
- How to develop an effective change communication strategy and how to ensure that the feedback loop assist in conveying the right messages
- How to approach resistance (which is a natural stage) and how to address people who may entrench their resistance
- How to drive for positive engagement and what good change management looks like
Course Outline
- What is Change?<br />
- To begin the day, we will discuss some basics of change, including definitions and examples.<
- The Change Cycle<br />
- During this session, we will explore the three phases of William Bridges’ change cycle: beginnings, endings, and transitions.<
- The Human Reaction to Change<br />
- This session will look at Daryl Conner’s interpretation of the human response to change through lecture and small group work.<
- The Pace of Change<br />
- In this session, we will look at how different people react to change in different ways and at different times through a lecture and a case study.<
- A Four Room Apartment<br />
- This session will explore change using Claes Janssen’s four room apartment model.<
- Dealing with Resistance<br />
- During this session, we will examine what resistance is and how we can overcome it to make change stick.<
- Adapting to Change<br />
- This session will discuss how to become resilient to change through a lecture, personal case studies, and group discussion.<
- Developing a Communication Strategy for Change<br />
- Delegates will be taken through various models that help identify the appropriate strategy for communication in their workplace. This will be then developed further to ensure that Kotter’s 8 steps can be validated and feedback loops exist<
- Strategies for Dealing with Anger<br />
- Change often makes people feel angry. We will look at some ways of dealing with our own anger and the anger of others through lecture and small group work.<
- Managing Stress<br />
- Change can also make people feel stressed. During this session, participants will learn some stress management and relaxation techniques.<
- Workshop Wrap-Up<br />
- At the end of the day, students will have an opportunity to ask questions and fill out an action plan.
